Conversation -- Listening Versus Speaking

The hallmark of a good coach is they listen more than they speak.  The other day a woman at an organization said, “Oh, you’re just what we are looking for – a consultant.”  I said, “Oh no, you’ve misunderstood.  I’m a coach.”  Coaches don’t give too much expert advice. They don’t lecture teach.”  I said, “I listen and help to facilitate “your” thinking processes. And you solve your problems.”  Sometimes I have to be conscious and put on my coach hat and tell myself silently, “listen, listen.”   And when you listen, “Oh my, you learn so much!”

Powerful question:  Have you heard someone say, “Look, I need to go and realized, “Oh my, I was talking too much?”   Can you silently tell yourself, “Listen, listen?”
